Came back down a hill too fast and slammed a tree at about 10 mph. Bent the horizontal tube the goes above the rear "bumper". Oops. Guess its not pretty anymore. Gonna replace it or bend it back.

We went back to ten mile creek and let it eat on that ledge today. Broke off the step that kinda helped you up, and it was all sloppy and icy. Its running about as good as it ever has. It was a dog in high range with the old carb, but was doing 75 down the service road quick (at 5 psi or so) with this new one, and its not close to right. I need to get it tuned. _________________ 85 Diet K5 truggy on 43's, soon to have spray.

Made some caps for the drive flanges and installed some new axle u joints. Found out that 2 teeth are chipped on the inside of the ring gear, but the locker is in perfect shape. It doesnt make any noise though and the pattern looks good, so fuckit. Im just gonna run it till it breaks. Kinda curious why it chipped.
Seemed to work fine yesterday

Done a few things lately but since work has been so slow Im broke. All the recent work has been using stuff I had that hadnt been installed yet.
I kept slipping off my sliders so instead of using bedliner like I was planning I did this
I needed a light the other day and thought I might as well use the stock GM retractable light. These things are the shit
I had a chrome dipstick that sucked balls, and would leak when I tipped over. I tried the spark plug boot method but it didnt work on this dipstick. While I was at the J/Y I saw a long o ring dipstick in a chevy van and snagged it. Cut it to length/ marked the level indicators, and shortened my dipstick tube (it got bigger at the base) so it would fit inside snug. It worked out good and looks a ton better that that pos mr gasket junk.
When we were in Clayton on NYE my map was bungee'd to the dash and got all runny after the tires slung shit on it. I was going to mount a waterproof (get em at bass pro shops, or ranger joes) kayaking map case to the dash, but that was too far away for the passenger to see and I would need to add a light to the dash. I wouldnt be able to see it if I was wheeling alone either. I decided to put it on the center console with snaps so it could be removed and cleaned. Its not large enought for a full size 8.5x11" map, but none use the whole page, so Ill just fold em down to fit. The led dome light is adjustable to point 360 degrees so that should cover lighting it at night to see how lost I am .
I got bored the other day and figured Id make a winch controller holder deally whopper. I used a cell phone holder and modified it to be rigid mounted to the console. It seems to work ok, and doesnt fall out but time will tell if I put the winch controls on a switch on the steering wheel or not. That was the plan before this idea.
There isnt any storage room in this thing compared to the old rig and I saw something like this so I made my own. Its 2 cargo nets from autozone made into one big net pouch. Its good for trash and keeping the safety gear. It holds my shoulder belts when Im not using them pretty damn good too.
When I started the build I kept all the stock steel fuel lines and flushed them. IMO this is safer than braided lines and wont come apart right away in a fire so I kept them. I also ran the vent line from the tank to the front (like stock) but just to a vent cap, not to a charcoal canister. I have seen too many fires lately and figured it would be safer if ran to the back of the cage well away from cables or fire, so I moved it. Its next to the rear diff vent now. All my vent lines will be getting rollover valves on the end of them as $ allows. Any fluid leaked when tipped over can become a fire. FUCK THAT!
I got some of these "Dot It" style lights from northern tool that rotate, and they seem to be way brighter than the regular "push/ click on lights". The are batt operated but the batts last a long time. At $5 I got one for the toolbox too.
Fabbed up something similar to this but stronger today. Pic is from WabFab.
My jack likes to slip off the sliders and go flying so this solves that problem. I just used a receiver hitch tube I had laying around and a chunk of 2" .120 wall tube. I left the doubled up end on it and cut/ ground it to fit. Cut the tube in half and buzzed it on. The hole that comes in the reciever tube was dead on. I used a hitch pin to hold it on.
EDIT: I have a HF "tractor jack, not a Hi Lift brand jack, so I dont know if this will work as easily with a Hi Lift. _________________ 85 Diet K5 truggy on 43's, soon to have spray.
